August 6, 2017 Mr. Chen, This is to express my total support of Brian and Mary Jo McCarthy regarding the very loud beeping noise emitted 24/7 from the newly installed cross walk signs at Olive Street and Santa Cruz Avenue. I own the house at 1615 Santa Cruz Avenue and can hear this very loud beeping noise on the exterior and interior of my house. Given the very high volume of the 24/7 beeping noise, it is obvious that the City failed to properly test the cross walk signs for this installation in a residential neighborhood. The City must take immediate action to substantially reduce the volume of this beeping noise to prevent this ongoing violation of my right to the quiet enjoyment of my property. This alternating chirping (between the two signs) is emitted 24 hours a day and at a volume that can be heard throughout our entire property, including in every bedroom, even with the dual pane windows closed! This noise can also be heard over 150' beyond the sign, down Olive St. and at least 100' down either direction of Santa Cruz Ave. This noise violates our legal right to quite enjoyment of our property . We are requesting that the noise level (chirping as well as voice commands) be adjusted so it can not be heard beyond 6' of either cross-walk sign. If it can not be immediately adjusted, then we are requesting that it be immediately de-activated until the city can find an alternative solution.
