To Menlo Park City Council Members,
Please help stop the incessant train horns! While COVID has reduced the daily number of trains, those that remain continue to blast their horn, nearly on a constant basis, as they travel through all of Menlo Park. The noise is deafening and stops any and all conversations during their transit. Sleeping with windows open at night is impossible and even with new, double pane windows, we must sleep with a sound machine in our bedroom in order to drown out the train whistles during the night and early mornings.
On their own, the trains are noisy and it's always with a bit of trepidation that we walk our dogs down the path to Holbrook Palmer Park. Having been on the path a few times when a train roared by, whistle blaring, our dogs are now fearful of the path and possibility of the deafening noise. It's astounding to think that anyone in the near vicinity of the train requires them to blow a horn to alert a walker, biker or driver to their oncoming approach. With proper crossing gates and lights, the horns are an unnecessary nuisance to all.
Please consider implementing quiet zones along the Caltrain corridor.
