Honorable Mayor Keith and Council Members: I would like to request that the Menlo Park City Council consider doing something to address the ongoing hardship being experienced by fellow citizens affected by HURRICANE HARVEY, located in the State of Texas and beyond. This storm is unprecedented, resulting in hardship and death to far too many innocent persons. The State and Federal government can't do it alone. If this Hurricane, an earthquake or other natural disaster occurred in MENLO PARK, a disaster of unprecedented magnitude, I'm sure you'd look to others for help. In that same spirit, there certainly must be something you can do, large or small, to join others in helping fellow Americans. For instance, you might consider 1) Sending money 2) Send a few staff members for a week, or more 3) Support other groups that are going out of their way to be there 4) Encourage community members to help and provide helpful references The Fire District sent equipment and personnel. Charities are helping. FEMA has been and will continue to be there. However, a great deal more is needed - now. There is certainly a sense of urgency. Yes, things you are working on are important. But when disaster strikes, it is a time to rearrange priorities. Please find the time to discuss this, directing staff in appropriate ways. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Jim Lewis Received on Sat Sep 02 2017 - 18:16:08 PDT
