Oak Grove - It's Working!

Hi City Council Members, This morning I participated in the M-A 2020 Task Force Multi-Modal Audit. A group of consultants from W-Trans, school staff and neighbors and others, stood along the perimeter of M-A while students arrived to document vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian and transit behavior. I personally stood at the corner of Oak Grove and Middlefield between 8:25 and 8:50am and witnessed scores of kids arriving to school. The great news is that a huge number of kids are cycling eastward down Oak Grove to get to M-A. Furthermore, the multi-jurisdictional cooperation with Atherton that was used in this project (Atherton extended the route with their own bike lane and multi-use path) is fantastic. The students are using the bike infrastructure and the improved intersection to cross safely to school. Brenda Bachechi, the Vice Prinicipal of M-A who was standing at the corner with me, remarked at the much greater number of kids coming down Oak Grove (instead of Ravenswood) and how their biking/crossing behavior was greatly improved by the engineering investments. Yes, we have a ways to go to educate the kids and make even more safety improvements, but Oak Grove is definitely a step in the right direction. Thank you!!! Jen P.S.
