Dear Menlo Park City Council,
Why is the City considering the reopening of Ryans Lane while the east-bound 600 block of Santa Cruz Avenue remains closed?
There is almost no reason to reopen Ryans Lane. It is a tiny alley which serves little purpose other than to create a dangerous intersection on Crane St. On the other hand, if kept closed, it can keep providing the only source of outdoor dining for Carpaccio, one of our town’s longstanding and popular restaurants.
Meanwhile, the road closure on Santa Cruz Ave. continues to dangerously divert hundreds of drivers each day, even though the two restaurant that formerly used the road don’t want to use it anymore because they have enough outdoor seating from the parklets.
Back in February, at Mayor Combs’ suggestion, Council instructed staff to bring the Santa Cruz Ave closure back before Council. When is that going to happen?
The fact that there is a meeting tomorrow about reopening Ryans Lane instead of reopening Santa Cruz Avenue is baffling.
Thank you,
Alex Beltramo
