Urgent - Broken Cross Walk Light @ Cotton St. and Santa Cruz

Dear City Council,

I called the Menlo Park police department about 2 weeks ago to report that the flashing cross walk light when you push the button is out at Cotton St. and Santa Cruz. The woman who answered said they were aware of it being out and it had already been reported. It is still not fixed. I dont know exactly when the light went out but it seems to be at least a month or two now and it is incredibly dangerous. People have become used to the lights indicating someone is walking across and without the light working they dont obey traffic laws to stop for pedestrians at a crosswalk.

My son rides his bike to Hillview each day and I have been going with him every day to flag traffic to a stop to make sure he can cross safely. Although there is a crosswalk most drivers DO NOT stop unless the lights are flashing on that are activated by the crossing button. Since it is broken the cars just race by. It is very dangerous and drivers are upset when I wave them to a stop and point at the crosswalk. They yell "push the button" and I reply with "it is broken and this is a crosswalk regardless of the flashing lights you need to stop for a pedestrian." They almost all acknowledge their mistake after I communicate this and apologize.

Can we get an immediate fix on this before someone gets seriously injured or killed? At a minimum if a policeman was there in the mornings from say 8 am - 8:20 am they would be able to write countless tickets.
