Re: Menlo Park Community Funding Program - Spring 2025 update

Hi Nicole,

Thank you very much for this update. I hope to join the meeting virtually this evening, but just in case, Ive also included a comment listed below. Thanks again, Laura

Dear Mayor Combs, Vice Mayor Nash, and members of the Menlo Park City Council,

My name is Laura Fanucchi, Director of Programs, at HIP Housing. The City of Menlo Park and HIP Housing have been collaborating for decades to provide affordable housing and resources to residents and individuals who work in Menlo Park. Most specifically, the Community Funding grant for HIP Housing from Menlo Park have enabled residents to be matched in affordable Home Sharing arrangements, provided coaching and housing for 1-5 years for low-income parents with dependent children who are working toward career and educational goals, and most recently, offering one-on-one case management for low-income older adults who need help applying for affordable housing. Without the Community Funding grant from Menlo Park, we would not be able to provide vital housing and resources to low income seniors, families, and others who work and thrive in Menlo Park. We thank the Council for reviewing the recommendations to update the Community Grants process and evaluation, and for supporting so many vital services through this program for decades. Access to stable and affordable housing is a critical determinant of success in life, affecting health, access to education, and the opportunity for economic mobility. By supporting funding programs that support the basic need of having stable housing, the City of Menlo Park will commit to making the City of Menlo Park a great place for everyone to live, work, and thrive.

Warm regards, Laura Fanucchi

Hello,

You are receiving this email as a fiscal year 2023-24 funding recipient of the Menlo Park Community Funding Program.

The Menlo Park City Council is receiving an informational item on proposed changes to the program at the May 13 City Council meeting. Please note that this agenda item is for information only – no action will be taken, and the City Council will not be deliberating or making any decisions at this time. Attached is the May 13 agenda which lists this topic under M3 on page 3.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.; however, informational items are scheduled toward the end of the agenda and may be heard later in the evening.

We encourage you to share your thoughts and feedback on the proposed changes. You can send an email to city.council@menlopark.gov, reply to this email with comments and staff will forward to the full City Council, or plan to attend the meeting and speak during public comment on item M3.

Thank you,
Nicole
