Dear City Council,
I wanted to express some of my wishes for youth sports and field access before Tuesday’s meeting. After last season of many sports being rained out for weeks on end (even if it didn’t rain on that particular day), I have been frustrated with the field access and availability in Menlo Park and am hoping some changes could be made. Burgess and Jack Lyle are often closed during the winter and spring season, making it difficult for teams to get any sense of consistency and puts them at a disadvantage to teams that have access to turf fields that don’t close for rain. I have considered not joining certain sports again based on location for the high probability that many will get cancelled if at Burgess or Jack Lyle. I think Menlo Park should consider reallocating more time for sports on turf fields, consider installing turf to some or all of Burgess, having a better rainy day or cancelled alternative, and allowing for more and/or later practices on turf fields with lighting.
