I am writing today in strong support of the construction of 800 new homes with 31% affordable housing as part of the Parkline/SRI development.
I am excited about this opportunity to produce 251 affordable homes near downtown shops, public transit, and city parks, with the option of even more on the 1.6 acres donated to a nonprofit housing partner.
I would ask that the City Council consider, if feasible, asking that the 1.6 acres be donated to the city or MPCSD for a second K-8 or 5-8 school to support the additional students who will live in this housing complex and other possible housing additions near downtown (e.g. potential housing on downtown parking lots, which I also strongly favor).
I have lived in the Willows area of Menlo Park since 2009, and in the Bay Area since 1999. I have two children in Spanish immersion at Laurel Elementary School. Overall, I strongly support housing density, dedicated bicycle infrastructure, and public transit, such as light rail connections along existing corridors to Caltrain throughout our city, and especially east of El Camino. Lets bring Menlo Park into a sustainable and equitable future together.
