Dear Council Members,
The new tier of water rates as proposed by MPMW needs to be re-addressed. The current situation for multi-family residences are bad enough. The proposed 3 tier rate system will make it even worse, creating incredible hardship for landlords, condominium associations, and families with multiple generations sharing one water meter.
Once this structure is in place, there is no changing it. I know since our condominium association has tried to address this multiple times with MPMW and basically been told "that is just the way it is". And that the time when new rate structures are proposed is the only time alternatives can be considered.
That time is now! In situations where 1 meter serves multiple families, there are simple mathematical ways to divide the usage.
In this time when we are trying to not go back to normal, this is your chance to direct MPMW to do better by the residents of our city - in all neighborhoods and in all living situations. An apartment building is not an office building. There is no reason to treat them the same in terms of water usage.
Please fix this now!
