Dear Mayor Combs and City Councilmembers,
I serve on the Planning Commission and am submitting this comment as an individual.
I’m writing to support affordable homes on downtown city-owned parking lots.
Last week, I attended a tour of Kiku Crossing on a tour organized by Housing Leadership Council and a number of other local organizations. As you probably know, Kiku Crossing is an 100% affordable and all-electric 225 unit development on what was formerly two city-owned surface parking lots. A few of us rode Caltrain to Kiku Crossing, which is just a few blocks walking distance from the San Mateo stop. The project is colorful and art-filled, with a generous bike room, transit passes to allow residents ease of getting around, and creative solutions for resident & public parking.
It is a wonderful and inspiring example of what we can create in Menlo Park!
So, again, I’m writing to voice my support for affordable homes near transit and in the heart of our community to make Menlo Park and the Peninsula a more diverse, vibrant, inclusive and welcoming community.
