Good Afternoon, Thank you to the City for the initial work being done to make the Elm St. and Walnut St. intersections along Central Ave. safer. While the efforts so far are a good start, the belief among neighbors is that more needs to be done to keep pedestrians, bicyclers and others safe. Specifically, we need stop signs at one or both of these intersections — and we need them before school starts in a few weeks. I am attaching photos that were shared recently by a concerned neighbor, which illustrate this ongoing problem. These are of an accident that occurred almost two years ago at the Central/Walnut intersection in which a car jumped the curb and ended up in our neighbor’s yard across the street. We were lucky there were no children nearby when this happened. Please take action now so we don’t need to rely on luck to keep our children and others safe. Thank you for consideration. Last week, a cyclist was hit by a car at one intersection and last month a little girl on her way to school at Willow Oaks was hit at our intersection. Cars regularly speed down Central Ave. because, unlike other roads in the Willows, there is a big stretch with no stop signs to slow them down. The problem is getting worse as more and more traffic flows through the neighborhood.
