Council Members –
I am born and raised in Menlo Park. I work in residential real estate. I develop properties in Menlo Park. I can tell you without any hesitation that eliminating the SFH zoning will not solve the housing problem. There are many many more feasible and reasonable solutions to increasing housing – first don’t make it so hard to build a single house – adding an all electric house has been very cumbersome to the building process not to mention expensive and the review processes are more complex and fraught with delays – how would you expect any builder to want to continue building in Menlo Park when it is prohibitively expensive and the red tape and fees are increasing at every turn.
No one is going to give up their residential plot to a developer to create more housing. The people that need housing don’t have a means to live in the middle of Menlo park and we need different focus that eradicating the SFH zoning.
Anyways from someone who is in the trenches on housing this is not a good idea nor was the Reach codes but no one ever asked on that one.
