WASTE OF POLICE TIME/TRASHY REPORTING

WASTE OF POLICE RESOURCES & TRASHY REPORTING IN ALMANAC 7/18/25

The front page headline story in today’s Almanac expoundedat length on the MPPD’s removal of a small  A frame sign on Santa Cruz Ave posted by theMiller Gallery inviting passersby to sign a ballot measure inside theirbusiness which was in opposition to the plan to convert downtown parking to housing.  This action was, according to the article, provoked by David Pollack, a self proclaimed campaign finance expert.  Mr.Pollack is quoted as saying that “hisopposition to the sign on public property was unrelated to his position on theballot initiative.”  This is arrantnonsense.  He has been a prolific andardent propagandist in local social media opposing the merchants’ position.  At no time has he complained about the manysigns I have previously observed on public property (such as telegraph poles)in support of his position.

The MPPD would use taxpayers’ money more effectively if theycracked down on dangerous driving on Santa Cruz Ave, under-age kids speedingdown sidewalks on e-bikes, or removing annoying peddlers (who also post signson public property) outside, e.g.,  Walgreens, Draegers,  etc.

As to the Almanac article by Arden Margulis:  There was a time in years past, when theAlmanac was a respected paper that published well researched, unbiased reports. This article does not, in my opinion, qualify as such, and certainly does notmerit headline status.
