Dear Menlo Park City Council, I am deeply concerned about the climate crisis we are currently facing. I was thrilled that Menlo Park recently resolved to make drastic cuts in carbon emissions, and in particular recognized the urgent need to electrify transportation. Given the acknowledgement that fighting the climate crisis is hugely important, I was dismayed to hear that there are plans to approve the purchase of 8 police vehicles that will get 17-24 mpg. We can do better. There are plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles that would meet performance needs while reducing Menlo Park's carbon emissions. Please postpone this decision so you can consider alternatives that will help us provide a livable climate for future generations. Thank you for your consideration and for your leadership.
