Dear council members,
Im writing to express my appreciation and support for agenda item H-1. I
am proud to see Menlo Park taking bold, well-researched steps toward our
goal of being zero-carbon by 2030. Few of us in Menlo Park are lucky enough
to own our own homes, and renters rarely have the power to push for heat
pumps, EV charging ports, or electric water heaters in their homes. My
husband and I own our home now, but when we were renting, I wished for a
city or state ordinance that would require our landlord to upgrade our
gas-powered heating or install solar panels. Why would they if they werent
required to? We were the ones paying the energy bills and breathing in the
fumes. Menlo Park has many, many residents in the same or worse situation.
This agenda item will go some way toward protecting those residents and
protecting Menlo Parks future.
