HISTORICAL HOME PRESERVATION

Honorable Mayor Taylor and Esteemed Council Members: Do you see any path available to introduce the concept of Historic Preservation in the City of Menlo Park? In today's Daily Journal newspaper, there was a front page article entitled "Redwood City Homes Secure Historic Status". It would be great if Menlo Park could do something similar to this to preserve the few remaining homes that are worthy of special recognition. Palo Alto has a Historic Preservation Ordinance, as does Burlingame, and a great many other cities. Maybe during Menlo Park's goal setting meeting coming up in late January, the concept can be introduced. With so many former properties that held special memories and value to local residents, such as Foster's Freeze on Oak Grove Avenue, Roger Reynold's on Encinal Avenue, etc. we are finding a slow by gradual loss of our past. In fact, there may only be less than 17 properties left that symbolize days long past. Respectfully, Jim Lewis Encl.: Article (1 page) application/pdf attachment: Article__RC_Homes_Secure_Historic____Status__Dec._2019.pdf
