A nice thought. But illogical, and will affect traffic in two counties.
Furthermore, it will reduce quality of life for people who are already living in the downtown area. It’s already difficult to find parking.
My guess is that nobody backing this project lives downtown or near there.
There are schools that would be impacted by traffic. There are entire communities that would be negatively impacted. I know of four businesses that will simply relocate to Palo Alto or Redwood City. This will reduce revenue, increase prices, and lower basic mood.
There’s no lower or middle class downtown and they can’t be created by so called affordable housing. It’s almost impossible to qualify for. It’s also illogical to believe that rents will go down. Have they gone down in NYC or SF? No. Only the one percent who will profit from this project will benefit.
It will increase population in a place where poor people can’t afford anything except for Trader Joe’s and McDonald’s. It will increase traffic when there are five local schools (and kids on bikes and electric bikes).
As it is, the police don’t bother regulating traffic downtown. Therefore one can only surmise that this will get worse.
Lastly … the only folks I know who support this are people who will profit, and people who don’t regularly get downtown.
The streets and population don’t deserve more traffic when they have spent over $1 million on property.
This project will demolish the last vestige of middle class in Menlo Park. I moved here for a reason. I pay $3k for an apartment I can’t afford for a reason. There are buildings that are new by the train station. They aren’t affordable, and coffee is $8 cup. This project is ridiculous.
Shame on all of you. You all know this is wrong.
