Concerned about housing project location

Hi City Council -
Thank you for all of your good work and dedication to Menlo Park. We are reaching out to express the concerns our family has around the new housing project proposed for downtown Menlo Park. Please note we understand and appreciate the need for more housing. The location for this housing though is critical to the future viability of Menlo Park and our downtown.

Putting housing on the west side of El Camino and removing much needed parking spots we think will be disastrous! The traffic today is horrendous in the afternoon / evening trying to get from the west side to the east side of El Camino Real. If you have not experienced this - please go yourselves to any of the intersections in Menlo Park that cross El Camino and see how long you have to wait to get through the light and then how backed up things are on El Camino itself. Adding more housing will severely exacerbate the current situation. Additionally, we already struggle to find parking spots downtown which sometimes discourages us from coming downtown at all. Losing an entire parking lot and increasing the population would certainly drive us away from businesses in downtown Menlo Park.

We have read the reports and recommendations for alternative viable sites for the location of this new housing and implore you to please consider these other options which make very good common sense in our opinion - on the east side of El Camino - which are still walking distance to downtown and public transportation as well as convenient access to 101. Alternative sites proposed all seem to be better options than the current proposed plan. Please consider Bohannon Industrial Park, SRI / Parkline, Burgess Drive, Willow Road, and Branner Drive.

Please please please dont destroy our amazing city and crush our downtown businesses by placing this new housing in the current proposed downtown location which comes with SO many problems. It is not too late to consider other viable and better locations.

Thank you!
