Park Preservation Ordinance and Measure - Support Requested

Dear Mayor Combs and esteemed Menlo Park City Council members,

I respectfully request that the City Council support the preparation of an ordinance and ballot measure to protect all parklands within the City of Menlo Park from being rezoned for a different purpose unless approved by a majority of voters.

Our parklands are a precious resource that encourage healthy outdoor recreation for physical and mental health. Parklands also encourage gatherings of residents from across the City to help build a more cohesive community.

As Menlo Park explores options to accomplish the necessary and important goal of increasing affordable housing, which will further increase housing density, it will be more important than ever to retain our parklands for the health and well-being of both existing and new residents alike, assuming that is the will of a majority of the voters. If the voters were to decide against the ballot measure, then at least a truly democratic process will have prevailed to make this important decision.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.

Sincerely,

Joseph Muenzen
