COVID and downtown Menlo Park

City Council - I suspect you all may be discussing this or others have suggested, but I am writing to encourage the Council to consider the possibility of shutting down portions of Santa Cruz Avenue downtown to allow for greater distancing for pedestrians, as well as for the restaurants and other shops that can benefit from that space. I would suggest considering different alternatives, such as shutting down a couple of blocks entirely, as well as alternating (say shut down from Evelyn to Crane, then open from Crane to Chestnut, then closed again thereafter, etc.). I don’t want to drive traffic down other streets, but I believe this could be done with limited rerouting of some routes. Given the level of vibrancy of downtown Menlo Park is not the same as downtowns of other Bay Area communities, this seems like a unique opportunity for us to improve what we have to offer to residents and visitors of businesses. This is a unique time that I think calls for some out-of-the-box thinking, and I just wanted to express my interest in this idea. Thanks for listening Regards, Norm Harris Cotton St. Received on Tue Jun 16 2020 - 18:18:47 PDT
