To the City Council of Menlo Park,
It has been a collective effort to oppose the construction of low-income housing downtown Menlo Park and to relocate this new project to the SRI Parkline area. The SRI proposal needs to increase to 400 units of low-income housing to save downtown Menlo Park, its patrons and small businesses.
If to demolish downtown’s parking lots to build 345 units of low-income housing, the downtown economy, reliant on foot traffic would become obsolete, only adding to the low-income issue being addressed in Menlo Park.
It is evident the solution is to not demolish downtown Menlo Park’s parking lots for low-income housing. The solution is to build on the SRI Parkline.
By approving the SRI Parkline Proposal, the City Council can support expanded low-income housing while preserving the vitality of downtown Menlo Park as a thriving community town square for residents, students and small businesses.
