Dear City Council & Chief Staff,
Please see the link to register for the Haywired Connection Series: Societal Consequences of Earthquakes. When the Haywire fault erupts, it is predicted to impact Menlo Park (and other cities) with the worst impacts in Belle Haven. To my best knowledge, Council last heard a presentation on the topic at their 6 p.m. May 8, 2018 Study Session. (When clicking on the play button, it starts with the session). The May 8, 2018 presentation focused on the human impacts of the HayWire scenario. These impacts (loss of life, injury, property damage, additional homelessness) will be reduced with stronger preparedness efforts. Please make disaster preparedness a Council priority for 2020-21. MPC Ready Area, Neighborhood and Block Coordinator volunteers stand by ready to help in this effort! (Public reading this: please consider becoming a Block Coordinator. Disaster preparedness starts with knowing the neighbors. Get connected before a disaster and you will be better off afterwards.)
HayWired: An Economic Disaster
The series is sponsored by the Joint Ventures of Silicon Valley. The Oct 22 seminar includes a panel of experts who will answer questions. This webinar presents the major results for the HayWired earthquake scenario economic study, which illustrate that it is a major disaster for the region, but one the region has the resources to recover from. The key levers that will determine how serious the immediate effects will be, what we can do about managing vulnerability and effects, and critical decisions that would affect the future following recovery will all be discussed. A panel of experts in buildings, business, resilience, and the economy will weigh in and answer your questions.
