Dear City Council,
I am vehemently opposed to this proposal to remove hundreds of valuable parking spaces in Downtown Menlo Park to make way for affordable housing. Find somewhere else for the housing.
Our once wonderful Downtown Menlo Park is now disgraceful, especially compared to neighboring Downtown Los Altos which is vibrant and flourishing.
There are dozens of vacancies in Downtown Menlo Park, its hard to even drive down Santa Cruz Ave., homeless on our streets, no longer beautiful. Come on, City Council! You have a duty to the Menlo Park homeowners to preserve our beautiful neighborhoods and revitalize our once wonderful Downtown!
Stop destroying it! People are fed up. This former Sunset building idea is terrible too. Removing valuable parking in Downtown Menlo Park would be the nail in the coffin for local businesses.
You need to step up and act in the best interest of the Menlo Park homeowners and long time residents, not transients who want to move here and should already know they cant afford it. They have many other choices of more affordable places to live, all within 20 minutes or so from Downtown Menlo Park. They do not have a right to expect to afford to live in a prime and expensive location.
As a realtor, I feel protective of home buyers who have worked hard for years to save up for a downpayment and often stretch their means to buy in a safe and beautiful Menlo Park neighborhood. It is not fair to ruin their neighborhoods and the once charming downtown area.
Everyone I know opposes this and is not pleased with the way the City Council is running the City. Hopefully there will be a huge turnout at the January Council meeting of neighbors opposing this!
