Removal of Redwood Trees at 1000 El Camino Real

Dear Mayor Mueller and Members of the City Council,

I am writing to 'urge' you and members of the City Council to find another solution to the issues raised by the owner at 1000 El
Camino that does NOT INVOLVE destroying seven mature redwood trees.

I understand that the largest tree on the property that every year has beautiful Christmas lights on it will not be cut down.
However, the roots of redwood trees are sensitive. If the you proceed to approve the removal of nearby trees there is a high
probability that the large redwood tree might be irreversibly damaged in the process.

I moved to Menlo Park in the early 90's and have so enjoyed living in a city that has traditionally valued its urban tree canopy.
Where I live on Santa Margarita around the corner from Gilbert we have a beautiful oak tree that has been protected, which is
'almost' in the middle of Gilbert as one turns off of Willow toward my street.

Cars drive around this tree. No problem. To me this oak that stands majestically in the street is a symbol of the City's
commitment to protect our mature trees. It is troubling to me that perhaps today a different decision would have been made
concerning protecting this tree and that is sad.

I will be unable to attend the meeting tomorrow night on January 7th so I am sending this letter instead to register my opposition
to the removal of these trees.

Please do the right thing and protect these trees so they can continue to grow for our future generations to enjoy.

Thank you for your consideration of this request,
Margaret Spak
