Hello City Council of Menlo Park,
I am a homeowner and resident of Menlo Park for over a decade with my son
attending Menlo Park schools and my husband and I being frequent patrons to
many of our favorite shops and restaurants in the area, including Camper,
the newly opened Clarks, as well as our go-to cafe at
Mademoiselle Colette.
In addition, I work from a small office on Oak Grove Avenue and often take
lunch meetings, run daily errands and do my grocery shopping downtown on
weekdays. Parking has been and continues to be a challenge. If you remove
parking to an already tough situation, you will cause total chaos and
disruption to local businesses. A few months (and the proposed construction
will take much longer than this) of shutdown due to construction will
destroy small business owners.
My husband owns a restaurant downtown Palo Alto and we are well acquainted
with the trials and tribulations of trying to make ends meet in a brutally
expensive local economy. We are also friends with many of the restaurant
owners in Menlo Park and are keenly aware of how devastating removing
parking will be for them.
I am pro-housing, but I am not willing to support a poorly thought out plan
that is extremely short-sighted. Menlo Park has consistently struggled to
create a vibrant downtown and we are finally starting to see that
turnaround.
Please listen to residents and people who ACTUALLY LIVE AND WORK in this
community and create common sense plans that will not decimate our small
businesses.
