Although not a resident, I have worked in Menlo Park for almost 20 years and consider it my town.  Over the years I have sadly seen many storefronts shuttered, be it due to the pandemic, or now more common than not the greed of landlords who do not support their tenants.  I am certain that the construction alone would be the cause of yet another round of closures.  Businesses directly affected by the build would simply not be able to survive with the disruption of traffic and no where for clients to park throughout the almost certain years long process of the construction.  Aside from this, the lovely population of Menlo is aging; my senior clients depend on the easy access of the current parking to be able to live their every day lives.  I have literally been told by more than one loyal client that if they could not count on the convenience of parking, they would sadly no longer be able to continue their, in most cases, decades long support!  Sadder still, they have also said that they would have to move their routine to Los Altos, a town where they feel they would have the parking and safety required for them.To say that this development wouldnt ruin our town is naive.  Other locations are far better suited to accommodate the needs of the new development and the people who will live there.  I do hope all of this will be taken into consideration before it is too late to fix the inevitable damage to our beautiful town.  Save us and save downtown MENLO!!!!!
