Housing on downtown parking lots - FOR

HI, Council

I know that people are upset about losing parking spaces. I am even upset about it.

But where else can new housing realistically be built? On a city park? People get just an angry about losing parks as about losing parking lots. Remember what happened when the city wanted to build an emergency water storage tank under Seminary Oaks Park? The park users went ballistic. The city had to find someplace residents didnt much care about.

There is very little city land available for housing. Nobody likes losing a land use. But we would like the Builder’s Remedy even less. Trying to find another place won’t help because there will always be push-back. Don’t get caught in an endless game of whack-a-mole. Bite the bullet and build.

Sincerely
