Ravenswood School District

The newspaper reports that the city is considering asking Sequoia Union High School District to absorb the Ravenswood district.
This wouldn't harm both districts.
Ravenswood is financial in trouble because of the proliferation of charter schools, greatly reducing the number of students (and
the budget) remaining in their district. This proposed merger would cause extreme white flight, and thus even more proliferation
of charter schools, making the financial situation even worse. This proliferation of charter schools would fragment our community.
Many of Ravenswood's problems stem from the poverty of its students. As Belle Haven and EPA continue to gentrify, these problems
will lessen, with no need to restructure district boundaries.
Sequoia Union High School District has many other feeder districts besides Ravenswood. It is not feasible to merge Ravenswood but
leave the other K-8 districts stand-alone.
